Rights 
  • Everyone has the right to adequate health and life in dignity. This is clearly expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • In 2007 the Convention on the Rights of Persons with a Disability wa adopted by the United Nations. The government of Nepal has ratified this convention in 2008. In Holland ratification still needs to take place. 

Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
 
It’s crucial to include people with a disability in all the interventions to realise the Millennium Development Goals. 
  • Contribute to MDG 1: eradication of extreme poverty by training marginalized people and families with a disabled child and providing them small credits so that they can increase their income and also participate in the health insurance system  
  • Contribute to MDG 4: reduce child mortality by improved basic health care for new-borns and young children with a focus on prevention of illnesses, disabilities and malnutrition, and on early intervention.
     
  • Contribute to MDG 5: improve maternal health by improving health for women especially during pregnancy and delivery.
