Ambition

In 5 years (2008-2012) we want to achieve

  • 5-10 percent reduction in the rate of birth defects.
  • 30-40 percent reduction in the rate of children developing a disability through illnesses, malnourishment, accidents or infections.
  • 50.000 people having sustainable access to better health care services.
  • achieve a better life for 500 children with a disability and their families through access to education, access to health services, physiotherapy, financial support and community life.
  • a proven successful, sustainable and replicable model (effective health care system with socio-economic empowerment of the marginalized and disabled people), which can be implemented in Nepal and in other countries.

Karuna Foundation aims to multiply the impact of its activities through

  • mobilizing local resources and as a result embed locally the development process.
  • increasing participation of the Nepalese authorities in Karuna’s projects.
  • stimulating entrepreneurs and development organizations to contribute financially and technically to the realization of the objectives of Karuna Foundation or to start such initiatives themselves.
  • influencing Dutch and Nepalese organizations through our approach.
  • sharing experiences and lessons with Nepalese policy makers, service providers and other (international) organizations.
  • cooperating intensely with national and international stakeholders in improving the health care.
Karuna Foundation is convinced that sustainable results can be achieved by basing each and every intervention on the local needs and local financial capacity, using a flexible and cost-efficient approach with a activity-wise budget allocation. At this moment our yearly budget is around € 400,000-
