Projects
The first country of Karuna is Nepal, a poor, but extremely beautiful country. Nepal is a landlocked country between India in the South and Tibet (China) in the North, with a large part of the himalaya mountains.
Population : 30 million
Wealth : 40% of the population lives below poverty line
Education : 43% is illiterate
Health Care:
limited access because of the high mountains, no or bad quality roads, weak implementation of the health policy and political instability
Disability:
Many people consider a disability as part of life, fate. They don’t believe disabilities are avoidable nor that the condition and life of the child can improve. Frequently a child with a disability is a burden for the family, the community and the society, which often leads to negligence, exclusion and discrimination.
Since 2007, Karuna Foundation has an office in Kathmandu, as well as a small regional office in the three districts where the projects are being implemented:
- Rasuwa, situated in the high Himalayan region
- Kavrepalanchok, situated in the Middle Mountains
- Sunsari, situated in the tropical lowlands of Terai
