In Nepal

Under the leadership of Deepak Raj Sapkota, Karuna Foundation has developed into a professional and dynamic organisation with a team of twenty committed, competent and mostly academic young professionals, all from Nepal. They spend most of their working time in the communities. Despite all the good preparations before they go the field, the reality is always complex and unpredictable. A flexible and open mind are essential for a good process and to achieve progress. They learn every day. They are highly motivated to help communities standing on their own feet and building up a better health care system with special care for children with a disability and their families. 
Karuna Nepal has an office in Lazimpat, Kathmandu and a small field office in Inaruwa, Sunsari and in Narayansthan, Kavrepalanchowk.

Deepak Raj Sapkota is the Country Directorof Karuna Foundation Nepal. He had worked as the first Executive Director/Member Secretary of the Central Child Welfare Board for five years, the central authority of the Government of Nepal on children's affairs. He also served Nepal Children’s Organisation as the Executive Director, which is one of the biggest child welfare organizations in Nepal. “I would like to contribute to the improvement of the rights and living conditions of children with disability and to ensure the right to be prevented from disability at a maximum extent.”

Mandar Shikhar Banerjee is Program Coordinator. As a Share&Care and CBR focal person he is responsible for the quality and the data analysis of all  the projects. He compiles key figures and gives prognosis regarding sustainability of the programs.“I feel rewarded if I can work to bring a smile on the face of disadvantaged and marginalized people.”

Yogendra Giri is the Senior Program Manager of our projects in Sunsari which aims to improve health services and rehabilitation. Based in the city of Inaruwa, which is situated in the middle of our project area, he sets up the projects, steers the activities and maintains contacts with the local population, government and organisations.“I look forward contributing to uplift the life of those children who are at risk.”


 
 
Share&Care
 
Aradhana Thapa is a program officer of our project in Rasuwa that aims to improve the access to improved health services of people belonging to one of the remote districts of Nepal. She is responsible for implementation of Share & Care in this area.“The journey has been wonderful so far; Working with the community and for the community is a great experience.” 
 
Gyanu Neupane is a program Officer in Sunsari.“Contributing to social and economical upliftment of deprived population was my dream, being fulfilled at Karuna Foundation Nepal. Besides, I am feeling lucky to work in the new area of health insurance as a part of Karuna Foundation Nepal.”
 
Chandra Lama is the Project Assistant for  our Share&Care project in the Timal region of Kavre District. He is living and working with the community to achieve the planned activities. “I would like to see improved and better health of the poor, disadvantaged and marginalized people of rural and remote areas of Nepal being with Karuna Foundation.”
 
Kuber Niraula is a program assistant. He handles the patients at BP Koirala Institution of Health Science who are referred by the sub health post. "I really enjoy serving the people who are suffering".
 
Devi Prasad Chaudhary is a community mobilizer in Sunsari and looks after the program at Bhokaraha VDC.”It’s a great working here at Karuna Foundation for such a noble cause.”
 
Jay Kumar Singh is a community mobilizer in Sunsari and looks after the program at Madhesha VDC.“It’s a great experience working with such a cooperative team and I am pretty sure that the team effort will bring its objectives into action.”
 

Prevention&Rehabilitation

Pusha Thapa did her bachelor in Public Health. She is responsible for the Prevention&Rehabilitation program in Rasuwa where she currently lives, in the communities. She is also responsible for Share&Care in Syafrubensi, Rasuwa, where the program started some years ago.


Capacity Building and Training of Professionals

 
Dhiraj Sharma is Program Manager of the Training Department. His responsibility is to develop and strengthen the leadership, accountability and communication skills of the health workers, HFOMC members and other key persons in the communities. Besides he is responsible for the Training of Professionals (ToP) program which develops professional competency of community level health workers to meet health care service delivery and prevention needs. 'To empower stakeholders for strengthening community health system, I manage and implement capacity building events for transforming and developing skills of participatory community development, disability prevention and rehabilitation of children in the communities. I contribute towards achieving decent and improved life of children with a disability, as well as health life of the community people'.


Community Based Rehabilitation

Rita Gautam is the focal person for Community Based Rehabilitation Program (CBR). CBR focuses in improvement of the lives of children with disability and their families. She is responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring and supervision of CBR Program. 
“Being a CBR officer in this organization, I can contribute for improving the quality of life of Children with disabilities and their families.” 
Sita Ram Sah is responsible for the supervision of the Community Based Rehabilitation support to the children with disability in Sunsari district. 
“My motivation is to contribute to the empowerment of children with a disability in education, health, employment and socialization.”  


Monitoring&Evaluation

Bikesh Bajracharya is the Program Manager Monitoring&Evaluation. He is responsible for planning, monitoring and evaluation of the entire projects running in Nepal. He also conducts baseline and end line surveys and other researches as per requirement. He did Master of Public Health (Global Health) from Thailand and Master in Sociology from Nepal. He has more than 5 years working experiences in different projects related to health researches and programs in Nepal and Thailand.  "I am glad to be in a team of KFN. I would like to contribute in the overall management, planning, monitoring and evaluation of programs of KFN. I am much interested to analyze key indicators of our projects for developing technically and feasible model of CBHI, which would help for advocating with Government of Nepal for universal coverage of health services of people of Nepal."
 
Archana Shrestha is doing her Master in Public Health with a Fulbright scholarship in Seattle, United States. Before she left, as a Senior Program Manager, she was intensely involved with all the projects and developments. Now is advisor and responsible for writing articles about the experiences and results of Karuna’s programs.“In the end we want that there are ten per cent less children with handicap being born in the project areas.” 
 

Finance and Administration

Dinesh Dhakal  is responsible for maintenance, management and administration of transparent financial system of KFN including bookkeeping. He also supports to strengthen the financial system of our partner Organisation. He had worked for Lutheran World Federation Nepal for many years. “I have joined Karuna Foundation not only for my career but also for the betterment of all aspects of development of the disadvantaged people and the disabled children and their families.”
Rajesh Bhojel is responsible for the financial administration and bookkeeping of the Sunsari office."I feel blessed to contribute for saving children from disability one by one."
 
Khagendra Chauhan carries out the administrative activities of Country office. He had worked for ADRA Nepal for several years. 
“I like to work with Karuna because of the marvellous working environment, with cooperative staffs and opportunities to explore myself and be creative in the team.” 
 
Milan Shah supports the whole team in its efforts to reach their goals.
“I like Karuna Foundation because all the staffs of KFN are helpful and the office environment is beautiful. Karuna works in the rural areas of my home district. I get the chance to learn about new things and know extraordinary things. The facilities I receive are also very good.”
 
Bala Krishna Khadka is a support staff of Country office. He is responsible for care of all the assets, equipment of the office during the day and night time.

Kundan Chhaudhari is a support staff of our regional office in Sunsari.“My motivation to work here is to help people with a disability.”
